Ribbon Embroidery

Ribbon embroidery first appeared in the seventeenth century when dressmakers in London attempted to follow the style of the French technique of Embroideries de Favor. The trend at the time was to wear huge rosettes of ribbon embroidery decorating men’s coats and women’s dresses. Shoes bags and gloves would also be embroidered to match. Silk embroidery involves using ribbon threaded through a needle just as you would with embroidery silks. The ribbon gave a beautiful effect as an embellishment on clothes, usually in the design of flowers and decorative patterns.(http://www.talkingthreads.co.uk/)
